Pat - Looking forward to your call.
Ken & Rachel - With your kind of insight, and determination I don't see why we can't get this thing done.

I am really quite naive when it comes to the WWU "system" but I would think that legally we could force a reasonable answer to "What can be done to get it back?" Cooperation on the part of the University would be nice! How do we get to yes?

Let's have a "memorial" get together (fundraiser) at the football field, on the day the Vikings would of played their first game this year. What do you think?

We can invite R. Shepard and his crew...and few thousand other folks!!!

Elaine,
Thank you for this post.
You, and many others who attended the Ski to Sea event last Saturday, received the news of Viking Football being dropped by WWU Administrators. Let me tell you, it wasn't a good feeling to watch the faces drop when telling people face-to-face that their hometown college team was no more. By far, the disheartened supporters outnumbered those who had little or no reaction.
One particular man stands out because he wanted to support the efforts of savewwufootball.com to keep the football rivalry going between his alma mater, Central, and WWU. Imagine that, he's not even a Viking and he wanted to be involved in bringing football back to WWU! Other Central fans have also offered their support, too.

The loss of Viking football is being felt across the state and beyond our state borders. I have personally spoken to kids who were planning to attend WWU this coming fall and have changed their plans due to the canceled football program. Certainly the businesses in and around Bellingham will feel the impact of this loss, too. I'm sure the restaurants my family visited on game days will notice fewer meals sold. Cancelling Viking football isn't just a decision affecting the school. It's much, MUCH more than that!

Yes, there should be banners and media coverage of this news. Important questions need to be answered. Public outcry is necessary.... from students, parents, business owners, and football fans young and old.

Dr. Shepard clearly has no finger on the pulse of those who look forward to college football and would benefit from WWU Vikings taking the field again someday. His decision has caused a wound to the school and community, and yet, he stands by holding back the cure as many others rush in to help stop the bleeding.

The financial loss to the school from cancelled alumni donations and student enrollment decreases will likely far exceed the savings he expects from no football program. Other considerations to cut costs for Viking football to continue could have been discussed, but Dr. Shepard took the easy way out by slithering away from fair transparency with those who truly CARE about the future of WWU.

Dear Elaine- You rock! Thanks for your support and efforts very much. Each and every new member of our group, who is willing to fight for this great cause you are now doing, is how and why we are going to be successful in Bringing Back WWU Football. With you on board with us we have grown significantly.

One thing I would like to point out is that $1,000,000 could secure this program's finances for 10 years or more. Only in one, bizzare year that will never happen again, did football have a net loss of about $485k. The five year average loss was just a bit over $150k per year, inclusive of the $485k loss. So add in many revenue opportunities that the WWU lazily ignored, and Football could easly break even in most years, and our $1,000,000 is safety net that is gettting refunded as needed.

Better yet, let's get that on-campus stadium that everyone knows would be great for all sports and other community/campus events. As I told Bruce Shepard, and he agreed, an on-campus stadium would provide a larger and more consistent source of funding than a $10,000,000 endowment.

I even know a commecial/municipal construction company that would build it now, and wait to get paid later.

There is nothing stopping Bellingham from having it NCAA Football returned other than the lies and defeatists attitudes of people like Bruce Shepard, Eileen Coughlin, Phil Sharp, Howard Lincoln, John Warner, Wendy Bohlke, Steve Card, etc....

Elaine,
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions in regards to the issues that WWU Football and savewwufootball.com has and is going through.
I would love to get together with some other realtors together and talk about how we could help the program as Realtors.
I submitted a copy of a commission donation plan for WWU Football supporters to Kirk and he was open to discussion.
I'll give to a call this week.
